Rates for Interpretation Services
On-Site Interpretation Services
Rates vary for each on-site interpretation assignment depending on the following factors:
- Pair of languages
- Simultaneous or consecutive interpretation
- Qualification of interpreter required (e.g. certified conference interpreter, accredited court interpreter)
- Specialization required
- Number of parties requiring interpretation
- Advance notice
- Availability of certified interpreters on the specific dates
- Travel time required
On-site interpretation services are normally based on hourly rates, with a minimum charge of two working hours. Additional service above the original contracted time period on the same day and at the same location will be based on half-hour increments. We do not charge for scheduled meal breaks during which the interpreter's service is not required.
Travel within 25 KM each way is included. Mileage and travel time charges apply for extended travel. Incidental expenses incurred on the part of the interpreter in carrying out the assignment, e.g. parking fees, will be charged to the client.
Over-the-Phone Interpretation ServicesA minimum charge that covers 30 minutes applies for over-the-phone consecutive interpretation services, with additional time charged based on 10-minute increments. Rates for telephone interpretations vary depending on whether the call is pre-booked or not.
Standard rates* for phone interpretation services:
- For pre-booked assignments:
- CAD $ 43.00 for first 30 minutes or less
- CAD $ 15.00 for each subsequent 10-minute increment or less
- For on demand calls:
- CAD $ 55.00 for first 30 minutes or less
- CAD $ 19.00 for each subsequent 10-minute increment or less
*Standard rates apply to the majority of phone interpretation assignments.
A 13% HST applies for all on-site and phone interpretation services.
Booking Interpretation ServicesTo pre-book on-site or telephone interpretation services, please send us the completed Interpretation Service Request Form or Contact Us.
For on-site interpretation, we require a 50% deposit for bookings, with payment in full by two working days before assignment. Bookings made within five days of assignment need to be paid in full at the time of booking.
For pre-booked telephone interpretation assignments, we request payment in full by two working days before assignment.
At the end of each interpretation on-site assignment, our certified interpreter will present a Service Record Form to you for signature to confirm the actual service hours rendered. If the actual hours exceed the originally booked hours, you will be invoiced for the extra time, based on half-hour increments.
For over-the-phone interpretation assignments, our conference bridge records will indicate the duration of the call. If the actual service rendered by the telephone interpreter exceeds the pre-booked time, you will be charged for the extra time based on 10-minute increments. For on demand calls, payment is required prior to search for and connection to telephone interpreter. If an appropriate telephone interpreter is available within 15 minutes of order placement but the client decides not to go ahead with the services, an administration fee will apply.
You are requested to provide as accurate an estimate of the required service duration as possible at the time of booking. This way you can be assured of interpreter availability for the full time period.

For both on-site and over-the-phone interpretation, you will be charged based on pre-booked time plus any actual overtime services rendered, rounded up to the next increment.
